The Dementia Guy

Learning from Living with Dementia

A 1-day dementia awareness course co-produced with EDUCATE (people living with dementia)  and delivered by DementiaTrainers.

Overview

A dementia awareness training day unlike any other is called Learning from Living with Dementia. Co-producing and co-delivering it are individuals with dementia. Click here to view the short film on this training program.

Those with dementia teach all of the course’s important lessons through embedded video clips. They provide a detailed explanation of each symptom.

They discuss how it feels.
They force us to consider the effects of harmful behaviors.
They discuss ways that others can assist.
They emphasize the value of getting to know the dementia patient on an individual basis.
They demonstrate to us that they still possess a great deal of their talents and abilities despite their symptoms.

A variety of trainer-led activities are interspersed with the video clips to help learners integrate the material and encourage them to consider how they may utilize what they have learned to improve the lives of the dementia patients they support.

To assist others in delivering Learning from Living with Dementia, we also provide a two-day Train the Trainer session.
